About G&S SoftwareI first started developing and distributing handicapping software back in 1992. This was before the Internet erupted and back when shareware was distributed via 360K floppy disks (the bad old days). My first product was a DOS based program called Pro Football Edge!. Pro Football Edge! evolved over the years and attracted a loyal following of users. After 10 years of developing and supporting that DOS based program, I was finally able to develop and release a fairly completed Windows based handicapping program that is the reason for this web site. The initial release of Pro Sports Edge! included about 80% of the functionality of the original Pro Football Edge! program. The most significant improvement was an industry-first, multi-sport design which allowed for the addition of NCAA Football, NBA Basketball, and more recently MLB.
The advantage of multi-sport capability is huge since any additional feature
added to the program is available for all sports without the requirement of
coding it into separate applications. The reason this is now possible is
due to the relatively enormous amount of RAM memory now available in computers
today. As a DOS program, Pro Football Edge! was limited to using about 500K of
RAM which severely limited the capability of the program and forced several
rewrites just to optimize for memory use. A modest machine today provides 64MB
of RAM which amounts to an increase in memory capacity by a factor of 128
times! Imagine if your own human memory capacity increased by the that factor.
In the DOS program for example, only two active seasons of data at a
time (about 500 games) could be loaded into memory. Sports Edge! can hold
200,000 games without blinking (at least on my machine :). This opens the
possibility to add many more features that before were simply impractical to
produce. I hope you enjoy usage of this application. As always, I appreciate any comments or ideas you have regarding Sports Edge! Handicapping Software. Gordon Grieb
