Frequently Asked Questions

How can I update stats?
There is no way to manually enter stats. The program was designed to "Self-Update" by checking our web servers for new update files. If you are having problems with the automatic-updates, there is an option to visit our web site and manually download the update file. If you visit http://www.sportsedge.biz and click on the "Stat Updates" link at the left, you will find information on how to manually download the latest stat files. Once the "stats.bin" file has been retrieved, click the FILE | Check for stat updates menu item and use the 3rd option for importing the stat file.

How often are stats updated?
Stats and lines are updated at least once a day.

How do I get the program to make picks?
An automatic pick generator is currently not available. While work toward this feature is far along, a reliable automated approach has yet to be found. This is the primary development goal for future versions Currently the program is designed to provide matchup information, allowing you to make your own prediction. The "Matchup Summary" screen does make a half-ass attempt at a pick based on line calculations from the Common Opponent, Historical Matchup, and Game Logs matchup screens. The matchups summary uses each of the #1-4 settings within the Common Opponent, Historical Matchup, and Game Logs screens to construct a summary listing. In addition, an estimated line is created based on the "Average" of the "averages". You can select which of the 12 possible averages are visible (and usable) by clicking the check box in the far left column. Once an estimated line is calculated, it is compared to the game line and if the difference is greater then the adjustable Threshold value, a pick is made and is displayed. For now, this is the closest thing to a "Computer Pick" that you will find within the program. As mentione, a  much more robust "Prediction Formula Engine" that uses regression testing on prior seasons is mostly complete but still needing more work before it can be released.

How do I print?
Printing is currently only available on the Schedule page which allows you to print out your weekly selections. Printing of matchup screens and other screens will be available in the next release. To print, select the print command from the FILE menu.

Colors - What does red mean? What does green mean? What does black mean?
Throughout the program, where there is a need to indicate that a team Covered, Failed, or Pushed with the point spread, I use colors. Green means Covered, Won, or OVER the total. Red means Failed to cover, Lost, or UNDER the total. Black means Pushed or Tied.

Is there an area for recording Straight Up picks?
Currently no but that may be added in the future.

There are abbreviations used that I cannot understand.
The help area will be added to over time and a glossary is definately on the need-to-do list.
